1.28.2010 Next Session Begins in April

9.16.2009 January Session Scheduled
The start date for the January 2010 session has been set for Monday, January 11. The session will last for four weeks. If you are interested in participating, please send your registration form and payment to arrive before Friday, January 8. As always, scholarships are available! 9.14.2009 November Course Added
Due to participant interest, a second fall session has been added for 2009. The session will begin on November 2, 2009 and will conclude December 6, 2009. Though Shaping Outcomes online sessions are typically four weeks long, an extra week has been added to this session to make room for the Thanksgiving holiday. Please register now if you are interested!
8.01.2009 In-person Shaping Outcomes Training in Minnesota
Shaping Outcomes Project Director, Dr. Rachel Applegate, will be travelling to Minnesota in August to conduct a one-day in-person training on outcomes-based planning and evaluation, as well as a "train-the-trainer" session.

9.1.2008 New Team Members
Welcome Shellie Rich and Sabrina (Brie) Kramer, new Graduate Assistants. Shellie will be serving as the Project Coordinator, providing administrative support. Brie will be providing Technical and Participant Support, answering computer-related questions for instructors and participants, as well as maintaining the Shaping Outcomes Website. 6.1.2008 Shaping Outcomes Approved for Continuing Ed in more states!
Shaping Outcomes has been approved to provide continuing
education/professional development credits to librarians in Indiana, Iowa,
Nebraska and Texas. In Florida, Missouri, New Jersey, Pennsylvania,
Washington, West Virginia, and Wyoming, no approval is required and so we
will provide contact hour verification.
Applications have been submitted to several other states and are pending
approval. For more information, or to inquire about the status of approval
for your state, send your inquiry to outcomes@iupui.edu.
4.21.2008 IMLS Highlights Strengths and Benefits of Shaping Outcomes
In a recent press release, the Institute of Museum and Library Services wrote "Museum and library professionals are encouraged to participate in Shaping Outcomes, a low-cost online course on outcomes-based planning and evaluation (OBPE)." IMLS goes on to say that "Upon completing the course, museum and library professionals will be able to:
- Communicate program benefits to the community
- Determine which programs to expand, support, or replicate
- Promote partnerships and collaboration
- Attract new funding sources
- Show the human impact of museum and library programs
- Articulate the purpose of their program clearly and open channels for healthy discussion of key issues
- Produce grant proposals with data showing what a difference their institutions are making in the community
- Measure effectiveness of current programs
2.07.2008 Shaping Outcomes Certified for Continuing Education Credits
In Indiana and Illinois, Shaping Outcomes has applied for and received state certification as a course to meet continuing educations requirements for educators. In addition, Columbus (OH) Public Schools has approved S.O. for continuing education requirements in that district. Applications to seven additional school districts have been submitted and are awaiting approval. Stay tuned ...
9.15.2007 New Team Members

8.15.07 - Shaping Outcomes Into the Future
Shaping Outcomes will be offered as librarian continuing education with the assistance of a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The Indiana University School of Library and Information Science, Indianapolis, is pleased to announce that they will offer the Shaping Outcomes course, beginning in January 2008, primarily to library professionals. The course, accessible from any state and library type, will teach participants the skills needed to design project evaluation suitable for LSTA and other library grant sources. Individual or team participants will pay a fee of $150 for instructor interaction and certificate of completion/skill attainment; IMLS scholarship funds will be available.
